This week I made some more paper for my photograph and also made multiple drafts of my black and white photo. The developing of the photos was fun and was amazing to see how they turned out once they went into the developer. Our 1,000 word pieces were critiqued and were made even better. The next phase after we finish this black and white portrait photo will be taking landscape photography. This week we are also finishing the book Mice and men by John Steinbeck. Developer Adds a electron to freed silver ions turning them black Stop Bath Stops the developer from turning the silver ion black by taking away any left over electrons Fixer Dissolves the remaining silver chloride salt Wash Washes away any chemicals that are left over Questions I have Can you change the color of the silver ions? Do different light colors change the affect it has on the final outcome?

This week we took a field trip to balboa park to take photos for our first phase of the project. I got this shot of a really nice couple and I was proud of it. These photos will be the ones being printed on the coated papers that we've been working on and exposed so it comes out as a black and white photo. We took time to do the processing because these will be the final pictures and they had to be perfect. Humanities
This is a picture I took at Balboa Park of a couple. I made it black and white then inverted the photo to a negative. This is gonna make it look like a regular black and white photo when we expose it.
This week I was able to finish and get critique on my 1,000 word benchmark on the photo of Dorothea Lange. With our emulation that we made in Chemistry, we were able to coat multiple papers so we could expose our images. The emulsion that wasn't used was saved for later in a bottle and cooled so it wouldn't liquefy. We had workshop wednesday and learned how to edit and make a photo black and white. I used my time really well because I was able to get all my work done on time and work a little extra on my math project. HumanitiesI am not sure about where I am going to take my photo to process but I plan on making it about someone else. Probably a stranger but if that doesn't work out i'll use someone in class. We also had a sacratic seminar this week about mouse and men and it got pretty emotional for some people. Below you can read my Dorothea Lange 1000 words Dorothea Lange Draft 2 Chemistry
This week I took a photograph that we will soon send out to publish/print today. In class today we came together to create our own personal black to keep the pictures from being exposed. We then split up into groups within the class to make the process a bit faster than it was, we moved out tables and covered all the lights with bags to keep the light from being so bright, we then cleaned up the room a bit to make our personal space more clean to give us more room to work with our pictures. We also created apparatuses, which makes a almost jello form emulsion into a liquid, this helped us to make this emulsion to start coating paper. HumanitiesThis is a writing piece I did based on a picture that Dorothea Lange took. Ive only finished 2 of 5 150-250 word paragraphs Historical This photo shows a fairly wealthy family that is being forced to move out of their land because a flood ruined their farm. Now they will have to work for a couple of cents a day and maybe dollars if they work enough. The dust bowl also affected many farm owners and landowners because they weren't able to grow crops. This put entire families to start working in the fields for men who owned acres of land and the families would pick their trees and make very little. When I say very little I mean cents and dollars if they are lucky and work enough. Composition Dorothea Lange (The photographer) took this photo putting the main subject closer to the right third. The man and his family are looking forward at something or someone and it brightens up the side of their faces which lets you see their expressions. Dorothea was able to capture their luggage which tells us that the family is moving to somewhere else and the caption of the photo tells us that the flood forced them to abandon their farm. This photo was taken to show people around the world what families were going through and how the dust bowl and floods affected their everyday lives. Of Mice And Men By John Steinbeck George and Lennie are the 2 main characters in this book. In the first chapter we meet both of them and it seems like Lennie is the weaker person and gets bossed around by George even though Lennie is bigger. They are friends that work on ranches and keep traveling to different ones. ChemistryIn chemistry we worked on setting up the dark room and my role was to move out the tables, chairs, desks, and set up the lights so there is little light that is visible. The light that is visible comes out as red light which will not expose photos when being hit with the emulsion. This light is just enough to be able to see in the dark room. We also made multiple apparatuses to make our emulsions and begin the paper coating process.
This week we started off by taking a look at some pictures that were recently taken. In Humanities we had to write about a Steinbeck article called "The Harvest Gypsies". We had to make and design a t-shirt based on the poem on the statue of liberty "The New Colossus". We talked about the great depression era a little which gave us a small over view of what we will be doing inn this project. In Chemistry we took a "quiz" to test our knowledge on lab safety. HumanitiesThis is a writing piece about the "Peon Class" that I wrote The peon class has been maintained by people that own farm lands and hire migrant workers to do their work. Farm owners have workers get paid less than the minimum and most of the time the migrant workers get there starving so they must start working immediately to feed themselves and their families regardless of what they are getting paid. The foods that they pick and gather are given to the land owners then they have to buy it from them to feed their family. Most of the time they pay more than what they make and to make up for the money they work for free and basically become slaves. I think that our society doesn't necessarily need these migrant workers but prefer to have them because landowners don’t want to gather their own food. I would consider the peon class being maintained because of how they get treated when working and because of how they get paid. I wouldn't say that our society depends on them but they definitely know that the peon class exists. These migrant workers might be the only group of people that are willing to work for such a low amount of pay and because of the conditions they face they begin working right away. This is the only way they know to feed their families and because they work and have to purchase food with the little money they have they quickly are in debt and have to work for the company for free. ChemistryAgNO3 + NaCL ---> AgCL + NaNO3
AB + CD ---> AD + CB A= Ag = Silver B= NO3 = Nitrate C= Na = Sodium D= CL = Chlorine These chemistry equations show me that the chemicals when mixed don't stay the same and group with others to create something new. It also shows me that the different chemicals can break apart and reattach with other chemicals.
